With over 91 million players monthly on different PCs and consoles, Minecraft is one of the most successful games since its creation in 2009. To celebrate the 10th anniversary, Mojang teamed up with North Kingdom to re-create the classic Minecraft game, based on the classical version that was created a decade ago.
With limited access to old playable versions of the game and with assets no longer accessible, this was an exciting challenge.
How were we going to transform the elements of the classic game into a brand new browser-based experience?
We solved this by using memories of key roles at Mojang and old builds that were dug up. Then, the puzzling began to build the full experience of the classic version. Starting on May 17th, the classic game is made accessible for free online - opening up the endless possibilities of Minecraft to the world. This way, we bridge the gap between the first generation of players, and the next generation of players experiencing Minecraft for the first time.
